Creating a dial-up networking account in Windows XP

The following how-to will instruct you on how to create a dial-up connection for SkyWay USA in Windows XP.

1. Click on START, followed by CONTROL PANEL.

2. This how-to uses the Category view for navigation. If you're currently using Classic view, click on the "Switch to Category view" located in the upper left corner of the screen.

From this point, click on Network and Internet Connections, as seen circled in red in Figure 1-2.

3. Click on Network connections, as seen in Figure 1-3.

4. You will now be able to create a new connection. To do so, click on the "Create a new connection" link located in the upper left corner, as seen in Figure 1-4.

5. This will start the "New Connection Wizard".

Click on NEXT to continue.

6. Select "Connect to the Internet", as seen circled in red in Figure 1-6.

Click NEXT to continue.

7. Select "Set up my connection manually".

Click NEXT to continue.

8. Select "Connect using a dial-up modem".

Click NEXT to continue.

9. You will now have the option to name the modem connection. SkyWay recommends naming the connection "Modem Upload Connection", as seen in Figure 1-9.

Click NEXT to continue.

10. You will now need to enter a SkyWay USA dial-up number. You can find a number by visiting our dial-up number lookup page.

Click NEXT to continue.

Disclaimer: It is the sole responsibility of the customer to verify that the chosen number for SkyWay's dial-up modem is a local call.

11. You will now be taken to the "Internet Account Information" page. Here you will be asked to enter your SkyWay USA username and password. Your SkyWay username, as seen in Figure 1-11, requires the full domain name @skywayusa.net. Failure to enter the full domain name will prevent you from authenticating properly to the dial-up provider.

Additionally, make sure that your options match the options in Figure 1-11.

Click NEXT to continue.

12. We will now finish the wizard and add a shortcut to your desktop. Be sure that the "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop, circled in red in Figure 1-12, has a check next to it.

Click FINISH to complete the wizard.

13. You will now see an icon on both your desktop and in the Network Connections window.

14. Double click on either of these two icons to start the dial-up connection process.
